About Spooky Planning
Spooky Planning is a free Planning Poker tool for agile teams that need to estimate story points together, whether they sit in the same room or across several time zones. It is built and maintained by Donado Labs, a small independent software studio, and it has been available at spookyplanning.com since 2025.
Why it exists
Most Planning Poker tools put the parts a team actually needs behind a subscription: more than a handful of players, rooms that survive the session, a scale that is not the Fibonacci sequence, a history you can look back at. Sprint planning is a fifteen-minute ritual, and paying a monthly fee per team for a fifteen-minute ritual is hard to justify, so teams end up estimating in a spreadsheet or a chat thread instead.
Spooky Planning takes the opposite position. Every feature is available to everyone, at no cost, with no account required to start. Rooms created as a guest hold up to 10 people, and logging in with email removes that limit. There are no paid seats, no trials that expire, no upsell in the middle of a session, and no advertising.
What it does
- Permanent rooms with URLs that do not expire, so the same link works next sprint.
- Unlimited participants per room with an email login (up to 10 in a room created as a guest), and unlimited rounds per room.
- Built-in voting scales (Fibonacci, T-shirt sizes, Powers of Two) plus custom scales you define yourself.
- Real-time voting over WebSockets, with votes hidden until every participant has voted or a facilitator reveals them.
- Viewer mode for people who facilitate but do not estimate, and screen share mode for presenting without leaking your own vote.
- Round history with average and agreement metrics per round.
How it is built
The application runs entirely on Cloudflare: Workers for server-side rendering and request handling, D1 for storage, and one Durable Object per room to relay realtime traffic. Accounts use passwordless magic-link sign-in, so there is no password to leak. The stack is deliberately small, which is what lets the service stay free without ads, tracking walls, or a paid tier.
Who maintains it
Donado Labs builds and operates the service, and answers support questions directly at contact@donado.co. Changes ship continuously and every release is listed publicly in the Changelog.
